Outreach Center and Central Street Housing Project
Completed in June 2006

Central Street Project

Construction of the Central Street Veterans Project was completed in June 2006 and the MVOC staff and residents moved in during the same month. It took nearly 5 years but the facility was completed and now stands out as an inspiration for Gardner's redevelopment. The new center has 19 transitional and permanent housing units, a drop-in center, a food pantry, 7 offices were created over covered parking and a breathtaking facade that compliments the rest of the downtown landscape. The library behind us is visible from many points in the building and the beauty of each accent one another. Downtown Gardner has something to be proud of and can be proud to have been a part of this project.

The city of Gardner and the citizens that live here have always been and are great supporters of the Center and all of the programs we run - Unity House, Nichols Street Veterans Apartments and the Montachusett Veterans Outreach Center that was founded by Cathy Stallings-McWilliams in 1981. Gardner is a veteran-oriented, veteran-welcoming community and it shows in the way our veterans are received, greeted, accepted, and respected by the entire community. Veterans looking for a home find just that in Gardner - once they come here, they never leave; they become part of this community, they have come home.
