GARDNER, MA- In anticipation of veteran’s day, Gardner Auto Mart has donated a vehicle to a veteran in need. Partnering with Montachusett Veterans Outreach Center to identify a veteran that would be a good choice for this donation, Gardner Auto Mart owner David Bettez has gifted a Subaru to Army Veteran Hal McAllister.
Hal is a combat veteran that served honorably in the military throughout the late 1980s. More recently, he came to Montachusett Veterans Outreach Center’s (MVOC) transitional housing program for support with his sobriety and help re-building his future.
Says MVOC’s Executive Director Dr. Stephanie Marchetti, “when David called me with the idea to donate a car to a veteran in need, I was so appreciative and excited- it is an unbelievable gesture that has the power to change someone’s life. I worked with our staff to identify a veteran that would be a good fit, and we decided on Hal.”
When asked about what this donation means to him, Hal shared “Giving back is part of my recovery and gives me purpose. MVOC has been paramount in my success as both a Veteran, and a person in recovery. This act of selflessness and gratitude only strengthened my belief in putting positive energy into a community, brings positive things back to you. I would like to extend my appreciation to Stephanie at MVOC for her tireless efforts to help the Veterans in the community she serves and David at Gardner Auto Mart. I feel very blessed.”
Gardner Auto Mart is located on West Street and is a family owned business that focuses on Subarus. Montachusett Veterans Outreach Center is a private non-profit organization that has been supporting veterans throughout North Central Massachusetts for over 40 years.
